The Story Fairy
Why just the other day the story fairy came my way and she whispered a story in my ear. She truly did…a wonderful story just for you…it is all about the big brown bear that couldn't jump.
Once upon a time there was a big brown bear that could dance, he could climb tall trees and he could run very, very, very fast but he couldn't jump. It all began one beautiful spring day when the big brown bear went tramping down the winding path into the forest. He hadn't gone very far when he met the little brown bear and all the other bears. They were going down to the pond to catch some fish for dinner. "Let's have a race down to the pond," said one of the bears. "Yes, let's race," they all shouted. The big brown bear loved to race. Most of all he loved to win. All the bears lined up in a row to begin the race. "One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready and four to go," shouted the little brown bear. The big brown bear ran lickety split towards the pond. He was in the lead and had almost reached the pond when suddenly he came to a large thicket of bramble bushes. "Go ahead jump. You can do it," he said to himself. "One, two, three, jump... Ohhhhh…nooooo I can't," shouted the big brown bear and he stopped dead in his tracks. All the other bears jumped over the big brown bear and the thicket of bramble bushes and ran down to the pond to catch fish for dinner. Fighting away his tears the big brown bear thought, "I can't jump. I am the only bear in the forest that can't jump." For a moment the big brown bear thought he heard someone whispering in his ear, "Yes you can… you just need to believe in yourself. Don't give up." He looked all around but no one was there. The big brown bear shook his head. "It surely is the wind playing tricks on me," he said. Unable to hold back his tears any longer the big brown bear began to cry softly as he went trampity, trampity, tramp, tramp, tramp further down the winding path and deeper into the forest feeling very sorry for himself. Soon he came upon a meadow and decided to rest. He lay down among the wild flowers and before you knew it the big brown bear fell fast asleep. Upon waking the big brown bear thought he heard someone whispering in his ear once again, "Yes you can …you just need to believe in yourself. Don't give up." Standing beside him was the beautiful Forest Queen. Once again she whispered in his ear, "Mr. Bear you just need to believe in yourself. Don't give up. And she gave him a gentle hug." "Do you really think that is all that it takes?" asked the big brown bear. "Yes, just believe in yourself and don't give up and you will be able to jump like no bear has ever jumped before," said the Forest Queen. "Now Mr. Big Brown Bear try jumping. Don't be afraid," she said. So right there in the middle of the meadow the big brown bear thought to himself, "I believe I can jump, I believe I can jump, I believe I can jump." "One, two, three, jump," he shouted. Up, up, up he went. Down, down, down he came landing on both feet right in front of the Forest Queen. The big brown bear was so proud that the buttons popped right off his shirt…pop, pop, pop. "I can jump, I can jump, I can jump," said the big brown bear to the Forest Queen. The forest queen said, "Yes, you can jump because you believed in yourself and you didn't give up. Take care my dear big brown bear." In an instant the Forest Queen disappeared. “ And the big brown bear that could dance, climb the tallest tree, run very, very, very fast and that could jump like no bear has ever jumped before went trampity, trampity, tramp, tramp, tramp all the way home. And the wind whispered, "Believe in yourself. Always believe in yourself. Don't ever give up."
