The Story Fairy
Why just the other day the story fairy came my way and she whispered a story in my ear. She truly did…a wonderful story just for you…it is all about the dragon and me.
“Hi, my name is Tyler P. Morgan the III. Everyone calls me “Ty,” and I have a flying dragon for a friend. His name is Connor T. Dragon the III. That's the name I gave him. But, I just call him "Mr. Dragon," cause that's what he likes to be called. Every summer I come to stay with my Grandma here at the beach cottage. She says she doesn't know anything about a Mr. Dragon much less a flying dragon named "Connor T. Dragon the III." She always tells everyone that I have quite an imagination. She's been saying that for years. Let me explain how I first met Mr. Dragon. It was early one summer morning. I was on my way to meet old Mr. McKinley our neighbor to go fishing with him like I do every summer morning. Well, this particular morning I was running a little late. So, instead of taking the wooden boardwalk along the beach to the fishing pier I decided to cut across the sand dunes to save some time. It was tough walking up the sand dune carrying all my fishing gear. On the way down the sand dune I lost control. There I was flying down the dune hanging onto my fishing pole and tackle box the best I could. When I finally got to the bottom of the hill I found myself flat on my back. I was just happy I was safely at the bottom of that huge sand hill. My shoes were filled with sand so I decided to empty them out before I went any further. Well, there I was emptying my shoes when all of a sudden there is this loud long sneeze. After the sneeze the ground seemed to shake and sand flew everywhere. I turned around and standing behind me was this huge flying dragon. He had sand all over him; he was wearing glasses and holding a book. He looked as surprised as I did. We were both speechless. I decided the best thing to do was to strike up a conversation. So, I said, "Beautiful day today. My name is Ty. What's your name?" To my surprise he answered, "Yes, it is a beautiful day. Uh…I really don't have a name." "You don't have a name," I said. So, I thought for a moment and decided everyone should have a name so I named him Connor T. Dragon the III. Only, he really didn't take to that name very well. He sort of turned up his nostrils. So, we decided on Mr. Dragon. You are probably wondering what he was doing there on the beach hidden in the sand. I was wondering the same thing. Mr. Dragon explained that since no one ever comes to this part of the beach that he was just sunning himself and doing a little reading. When he heard me coming he dove into the sand to hide. As he dove into the sand he got sand in his nostrils and that sand made him sneeze. Sounded reasonable to me. He didn't have any friends so I took him under my wing. I explained to him that I was on my way to go fishing with old Mr. McKinley like I do every morning and that he was welcome to come along; but that I was late and we would have to hurry. Mr. Dragon thought that was a great idea; so, the two of us dusted off the sand and started to run down the boardwalk to the pier. When we reached the pier there was Mr. McKinley as always. I told him I was sorry that I was late and explained why. Then I introduced him to Mr. Dragon. Mr. McKinley just kind of gave me a funny look and kept on fishing. Then he started mumbling something about he heard of imaginary friends but never an imaginary dragon. Especially a dragon named Connor T. Dragon the III. He mumbled something else but I couldn't make it out. Mr. Dragon bellowed, "He can't see me." Oh great I thought. "Why can't he see you?" I asked. "I'm not sure why. It just seems like only children can see me. Maybe it’s because older people just don't believe there are such things as flying dragons," said Mr. Dragon. We spent the rest of the morning fishing off the pier. With Mr. Dragon helping me I caught more fish than ever before. Old Mr. McKinley couldn't figure it out. He mumbled the whole time we were fishing. That’s how I first met Mr. Dragon… I can’t wait to take him skateboarding on the boardwalk with all of my friends tomorrow! I know that they will be able to see him! I sure wish you could meet him sometime…
