The Story Fairy
Why just the other day the story fairy came my way and she whispered a story in my ear. She truly did…a wonderful story just for you…it is all about the little Princess who learns to dance.
Once upon a time there was a little Princess named Li. She lived in a beautiful palace surrounded by gardens. The gardens were filled with lovely flowers, exotic birds, ponds, and bubbling fountains. She spent her days in the garden singing and playing her flute. Chen, the wise old gardener who took care of the gardens loved to hear her play her flute and sing. He told the little Princess that it was her singing that made the flowers grow and the birds sing. One day Chen overheard the Princess talking to an old turtle that lived in one of the ponds. Princess Li told the turtle that more than anything she wanted to learn to dance. Princess Li told the turtle that she would not be happy unless she learned how to dance. Now Chen being the wise old gardener that he was knew just what to do. There was a beautiful white crane that had lived in the garden for many years. This beautiful white crane was the most graceful bird that Chen had ever seen. So, he went down to the pond where the graceful white crane lived and explained that he needed her help. The white crane listened carefully and agreed to teach the little Princess to dance. The next day when the little Princess was singing and playing her flute in the garden the white crane landed in the pond in front of the Princess. As the Princess played and sang the graceful white bird danced upon the water. The Princess couldn’t believe her eyes. She had never seen a bird dance with such grace before. Before the little Princess knew what was happening the white crane had taken the Princess’s hand and began to dance with her. The little Princess danced with the grace of the beautiful graceful white crane. They danced until nightfall. Each day when the little Princess went down to the garden to sing and play her flute the little Princess and the graceful crane would dance among the flowers. Her silk robes flowed through the air, the cherry blossoms drifted down from the trees, and the turtle watched from his favorite rock in the pond. Chen, the wise old gardener watched quietly from a distance. Then one day the beautiful white crane told the little Princess that it was time for her to dance alone. Princess Li told the white crane that she could not dance alone. But, the white crane insisted that she try. At first the little Princess stumbled and then she heard the white crane whisper to her. The white crane said that all she had to do was believe in herself. But, the little Princess was afraid. The white crane continued to whisper, “Believe in yourself...believe in yourself...believe in yourself...” The words became the song that the little Princess danced to. She danced gracefully throughout the garden her beautiful silk robes floating in the air. And that’s how little Princess Li learned to dance…
